September 26, 2009....At Peaceful Paths, we've been thinking of ways to get in
motion.  Truthfully, like other small independent shops of our sort, it's been a rather
harsh summer, (financially speaking), and we've been concerned & obsessing about
our own welfare.  But something someone once said crossed our path...
"Giving frees us from the familiar territory of our own needs by opening our mind to the
unexplained worlds occupied by the needs of others."

'The familiar territory of our own needs', indeed!  What an engaging and time
consuming place and how well we know the turf!  ....but what of these 'unexplained
worlds'?

Well, at Peaceful Paths, we've decided to start some local exploring and we're asking
you to join us!  Beginning this month, we'll be launching a new program, T.H.A.N.K.S.
(To Help And Nurture Kindred Spirits)  The goals of T.H.A.N.K.S. will undoubtedly
expand as we explore (and we welcome any ideas/suggestions you may have!) but for
now, we'd like to bring more awareness and aid to our local non-profit charitable
organizations and thank them in whatever small ways that we can.  As writer Jack
London reminds us: "A bone to the dog is not charity. Charity is the bone shared with
the dog, when you are just as hungry as the dog."

The groups we will highlight are composed of caring people, many ju st volunteers,
who work tirelessly, without much recognition, to help so many in need.  About every
two months, we will provide you with information about a particular organization, what
their current needs are and we'll be collecting donations at Peaceful Paths, (a lot of
needed items are things we all may have just laying around the house!  Perhaps that
extra can of tuna in the back of your pantry for someone who hungers. Maybe that
slightly worn coat in the back of your closet or that pair of boots you bought but never
wore for someone who will be cold this winter without them. Or maybe an extra bag of
chow will find its way into the cart when you’re out shopping for Fluffy?  Little things
can mean so much!)

We ask that you simply scan the email to see if there are any items on the list you
have or can get and can easily part with.  We’ll try to keep it all as simple and Light as
we can and hope that you’ll examine your hearts and homes and come on over to our
house to drop off a donated item and have a cup of tea! At the end of two months or
so, all collected donations will be turned over to the organization and we‘ll be sure to
keep you posted as to the benefit your gift has made.  Most donations will be tax-
deductible and we'll also be giving out coupons with every donation, good for 10% off
anything at Peaceful Paths.

For September/October, we've chosen a group whose services have struck a deep
chord with us, a non-profit organization for battered/homeless women and their
children called Strengthen Our Sisters based in West Milford, NJ.  More information
and a list of current needs will be emailed to you shortly.  We thank you so much in
advance for your participation! www.peacefulpaths.com
