Richard Shulman
Award winning composer of music for inspiration,
healing and enlightenment to play at Divine
Inspirations Bookstore
Composer / Keyboardist Richard Shulman loves the expression of Divine
qualities which come through his music in concert, for Musical Soul Portraits,
and in composing. “The process of performing and composing clears and
uplifts me and the people I play for through the harmonizing effect of the
inspiration.” He evokes this inspiration by asking for music for the Highest
and Greatest Good for his audiences.
He doesn’t compare this musical process to trance channelling, but
emphasizes instead the need for focus, inner listening, and surrender in
performance.
Shulman has had much practice to prepare him to be fully present to the
music he performs. He studied with Chuck Mangione and Marian McPartland
at the Eastman School of music, and continued Jazz studies with Frank Foster
at the State University of NY at Buffalo while getting his Masters degree in
musical composition.
After he moved to NYC in the 80’s, a spiritual crisis led him to study with Hilda
Charlton, who led classes for over 23 years, teaching the importance of self-
mastery, giving and forgiving, unconditional love, and remembrance of God.
There he learned the art of playing music for meditation, and was shown by a
healer that he could create music for the souls of individuals and groups. He
calls these spontaneous compositions “Musical Soul Portraits” and continues
to perform them as a special feature in his solo concerts. He'll be composing
one of these special compositions during his concert at Divine Inspirations.
While continuing his jazz performances and recordings, Shulman created
many CDs for healing and meditation starting in 1990, and in 1996 received a
vision which led him to compose and record a CD and DVD with symphony
orchestra about following and fulfilling dreams of the heart: Camelot
Reawakened. The CD won a COVR (Coalition of Visionary Resources) award
in 2003 and the DVD was a finalist in 2005. He won another COVR award this
year for his 11:11 Piano Meditations for Awakening CD. 2009 has also
brought the CD releases of "Sky Jazz," with the Richard Shulman Trio and “A
Higher Dimension,” a spiritual journey with Divine qualities. Shulman has
played at the Metaphysical Center of New Jersey, The Baron Arts Center,
Center for Spiritual Living Morristown, and Outpost in the 'Burbs.’
Shulman will be performing one of his delightful concerts on Friday October
23rd at Divine Inspirations Bookstore, 217 Franklin Avenue, Nutley, NJ
