Birthstone : Amethyst
Once considered more valuable
than diamonds, Amethyst is a
member of the quartz family,
occurring naturally as crystals
within rocks. These gemstones
are found in the United States,
Brazil, Canada, Australia, India,
Madagascar, Russia and many
other countries.
February's purple birthstone has
been found among the
possessions of royalty
throughout the ages. The intense
Amethyst shade appealed to
early monarchs because they
often wore this color. Purple dye
was scarce and expensive at
one time, and so it was reserved
for the garments of the royal
household. Peasants most
frequently wore beige, brown or
drab colors. Amethyst has been
found in ruins dating as far back
as the ninth century, adorning
crowns, scepters and jewelry. A
large Amethyst is in the British
Crown Jewels which is closely
guarded.
Amethyst is a crystal of
protection and has the power to
overcome difficulty, stress,
anxiety and indecision. I
personally use it for added
energy in tarot because it also
gives off the positive energy of

using common sense. It
amplifies contact with spirit
